On the morning of June 27, Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto (FGS Toronto) Chinese School held the “2020-2021 Graduation Ceremony” online. Over 50 participants attended, including students, parents, and teachers. A special short clip was presented to all participants to recap the wonderful moments in this school year during the ceremony. In addition, the certificates of completion were awarded to students.
In the welcome speech, the Abbess of Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, Venerable Chueh Fan praised the dedication of teachers, the perseverance of students, and the cooperation of parents in supporting the students’ online Chinese lessons. The Abbess also encouraged students to continue implementing the “Three Acts of Goodness” in their everyday lives to cultivate good causes and conditions.
The Dean of Academic Affairs, Ms. Wang described the support of all parents, students, and teachers as the legs of a tripod, that all three of them are indispensable.
The parents’ representative shared the experience of how a parent accompanying children to learn Chinese. She shared the struggles, challenges, improvements, and growths that parents faced during this learning process. She appreciated the effort of the FGS Toronto Chinese School, as not only the children learned new knowledge but also learned about love and compassion. She said, “Noting is more touching and warm than hearing your child say ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ or ‘I love you’ in Chinese!”
The Guiding Venerable of the Chinese School, Venerable Ruxing, concluded the ceremony by adopting an interesting story to describe the importance of learning a second language and reminded everyone, including teachers and parents, to keep up the great work.
